(Still from Archipelago)

The NFTS won ‘Best Documentary’ for Archipelago, ‘Best Animation’ for Edmond and was awarded second prize in the ‘Fiction’ category for Patriot.

This is the third time that the NFTS has taken top place in these prestigious awards having also won two out of three categories in 2015, and in 2013, the school made history by becoming the first institution to win first prize in all three categories. This year, 117 film schools submitted entries, which were voted on by 107 of the world’s major film and television schools from 57 countries.

The Archipelago (Director, Producer, Cinematographer: Benjamin Huguet) is a documentary set in The Faroe Islands where a community is in transition. The film is a portrait of a nation that for many years has lived undisturbed, but is now forced to explain and defend their way of living, as the international NGO Sea Shepherd announces its largest anti-whaling campaign to date. The clash between these two opposing ecological visions could very well change the face of the archipelago forever.

Animation, Edmond (Director/ Writer/ Animator, Nina Gantz; Producer, Emilie Jouffroy): Edmond’s impulse to love and be close to others is strong… Maybe too strong. As he stands alone by a lake, contemplating his options, he goes on a journey backwards through his life, and revisits all his defining moments in search for the origin of his desires.

Fiction, The Patriot (Director/ Writer, Eva Riley; Producer, Michelangelo Fano): Hannah loves her Dad and always wants to be seen next to him. But during the preparations for an anti-immigration protest she is pushed out. Hannah then meets a teenage Romany boy and does her best to insult and push him away but the boy won’t leave her alone, leading to consequences which turn her world upside down.
