MOKOOMBA - to play at Musicport Festival.

Mokoomba, one of the Top 10 Bands out of Africa, brings audiences an electrifying blend of Afro-fusion and tantalizing traditional Tonga rhythms.

Their mix of Zimbabwean rhythms, Afrobeat and Afrorock generated exuberant scenes in over 75 concerts in 2017 from New Orleans Jazz Festival to Sziget Festival featured in Songlines Magazine, Arte TV, Afropop and many more.

The name MOKOOMBA stems from the deep respect that the Tonga people have for the Zambezi River and for the vibrant life that it brings to their music and culture. This exciting Tonga group from Zimbabwe certainly has a unique sound that is set to take the world music scene by storm!

In February 2017 Zimbabwe’s most celebrated young band Mokoomba came with a new offering: Luyando. On Luyando, Mokoomba modified their rock-band oriented line-up to record a more raw, acoustic album.

Their music is rooted in the local traditions and life in their hometown of Victoria Falls, a town on the Zambezi River named after the spectacular waterfall.

Since their first hit the music scene their blend of traditional rhythms and contemporary Zimrock took is taking the world by storm. MOKOOMBA brings a unique flavour to a scene that was dominated by sungura, reggae and dancehall, urban and afro jazz bands at that time.

Mokoomba will perform at the 2018 Musicport Festival held in Whitby over the weekend of 19th - 21st October along with Vieux Farka Touré (Mali), Dobet Gnahoré (Cote D’Ivoire), Natty, Destyn Maloya Band(Reunion), Ye Vagabonds (Eire), Erna Chim (Namibia), Leveret, Kolonien (Sweden), O’Hooley & Tidow, Kitty & Jack (USA), Blackbeard’s Tea Party, The Whiskey Priests, Paddy Garrigan and the Stroller Priests, Bobs Blundabus and many more still TBC.
