About
Our pianistic tradition, Vicente Scaramuzza piano-technique, supports WKMT's teaching approach. We believe that learning music is not just about learning how to play the piano individually.
We can access music in many different ways. We interact with music when we attend a concert; when we appreciate a performance; when we choose what music to listen to; when we discuss about music and, of course, when we play music. Our piano lessons are designed to train our piano students so they can interact with music in all these different ways.
Our bi-annual music festivals are the perfect occasion for students to exercise their performance skills. But not only their performance skills. They also socialise. They listen to each other, and they see how our signature piano technique impacts them in different ways.
Our monthly concerts help our community to gather regularly: Our students can meet each other, can discuss music and can fantasise about what they would do if they were in the stage. Music is a social art, and as such, it needs to be regularly shared.
With this three-dimensional teaching approach, we develop you as a musical individual. You can expect three different outcomes from this type of training: 1. you can become a concert pianist; 2. you can become an amateur musician or a music teacher; 3. you become a music connoisseur.
As a practice, we guarantee you will become at least a music connoisseur. What is a music connoisseur? Someone who understands music because he or she can also play an instrument, in this case, the piano. But a music connoisseur doesn't just play the piano; a music connoisseur understands piano repertoire. This individual also knows about piano technique and what involves practising an instrument.
Our piano students can pull out an exciting conversation about piano and music in general. Not because they have read random articles about music in a newspaper, but because they play music. As they play the piano, they empathise better with professional piano performers, which in time fosters their ability to understand and explain their friends about the challenges of performing in a piano concert.
We stimulate our piano students, in our piano lessons, with a broad repertoire. They can also follow the grade examination syllabuses. Together with the imposed pieces, our WKMT piano teachers stimulate their students with fantastic works from the world music repertoire.
We are aware of the linguistic characteristics of music. WKMT offers its piano students the best foundations so they can forge a long-term relationship with music and piano performance.
