About
CLASSIC CLAPTON the World's No1 Eric Clapton Tribute Band featuring front-man Mike Hall will be appearing at a venue near you soon! The band was formed in 1985 in Newcastle upon Tyne long before the term “tribute band” was invented, and named themselves ''After Midnight'' after Eric Clapton’s first solo hit. Their ability to re-create Clapton’s electrifying stage performances really caught the audience’s imagination. In guitar/vocalist Mike Hall, the band possesses a front man who not only looks like Eric, he sings and plays guitar like him too!
In 1999, Mike won a national look-alike competition held at Madam Tussauds in London. Mike has met Slowhand twice, and even received a message of encouragement from the guitar maestro (written on a Concorde menu).
TYNE TEES TELEVISION were so impressed, they made a programme about them, called 'COVER THEIR TRACKS'. They filmed the band's concert at Newcastle Opera House in front of 600 ecstatic fans. It was shown in August 2000 and received rave reviews, leading to national recognition.
In 2001 they embarked on an extensive tour of UK Theatres. They called the tribute show "CLASSIC CLAPTON". Since then, they have continued to perform throughout the UK and Europe including concerts at The Royal Festival Hall, London and a triumphant appearance at Glastonbury Festival in 2002. In the past few years they have performed numerous concerts in Europe including Spain, Estonia, Holland & France.
In 2009 they appeared at St Andrews Auditorium in Mumbai. They were invited back for 3 more concerts in India in 2016. On the final night of the tour Classic Clapton performed in front of 3500 people in the open air sports arena in Mumbai. On 18 March 2017 they appeared in Colombo, Sri Lanka. You can see a photo album plus videos from many of their foreign tours on the band’s Facebook page:- www.facebook.com/classicclapton

A blinder of a concert. This was their first time playing in Christchurch. Lead guitarist/vocals Mike Hall has an uncanny resemblance to Clapton and has clearly studied the great man’s stance as well as his music. The band kicked off with ‘After Midnight’ . The classics flowed like a river: ‘Lay Down Sally, ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, ‘I Feel Free,’ ‘Little Wing,’ Wonderful Tonight’. Superb and seemingly effortless guitar playing, great harmonies and an appreciative full house made this an evening of solid sound to remember. Mike and the band produced an epic play out of ‘White Room’ (Cream) to end the first half. The best of the best continued through the second set, ‘I Shot the Sheriff,’ ‘Cocaine,’ ‘Sunshine of Your Love,’ ‘Promises,’ and an audience who proved they could sing a good chorus line too. Could they pull off the all time great ‘Layla,’ ? their version was slick. A couple of encores later and the show was over. Mike has a friendly and inclusive manner and gave a number of shout outs to his fans. whom time out to meet his fans after the show. If you love Clapton, this is a must-see tribute act.
