About

Cathays Brass is a newly formed community brass band in the heart of Cardiff. Our aim is to provide a fun and enjoyable environment to create great music.
Community is key to the objectives of the band, we aim to give an opportunity for all brass players in the heart of Cardiff to come together to play fun and exciting music. We will hope to perform regularly at concerts and events throughout the Cardiff area.

In September 2016, Cathays Brass appointed Martyn Ford as our Music Director. An alumnus of The Royal Academy of Music, Martyn Ford is a conductor with an international reputation, and has conducted major symphony orchestras on three continents. Martyn has conducted and recorded with The London Philharmonic, The London Symphony and The Royal Choral Society, (winning gold and platinum record awards), The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and The National Youth Orchestra of Wales. Martyn has conducted, arranged and recorded twice with World, European and British Brass Band Champions, The Black Dyke Band, and conducted them in concert with James Watson as the soloist. Martyn has a wealth of experience conducting brass bands and has guest conducted several Championship Bands including Sovereign Brass, The Staffordshire Band, The Camborne Town Band, BTM and Burry Port Town Band.
As an arranger, conductor and record producer, Martyn has worked with some of the World’s greatest rock artists including The Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Bryan Ferry, Sir Cliff Richard, The Who, Lou Reed, Marc Bolan, Bob Marley, Kate Bush, Led Zeppelin, and Toto.

We rehearse weekly on Monday Nights 7-9pm at Cathays Sports & Social Club on Cathays Terrace. New players welcome. Hope to see you all there in the near future.
