About
Angelique began dancing at 12 years old. She was a child performer under the direction of UK disco dancing champion Frankie Johnson Jnr. After finishing school she went on to do a foundation course in dance at The Rubicon in Cardiff, which inspired her to pursue a career in dance. She moved to London to train, and undertook freestyle commissions in Spain and teaching in Holland. A few years later her training progressed towards qualifying as a teacher with the ISTD (Modern Associate), and IDTA (Freestyle Associate Dance degrees). Also obtaining her YMCA Exercise To Music.
On discovering Salsa, she quickly fell in love with the dance and music and started training with Susanna Montero and Super Mario. Susana nurtured her talents, and after a short period of time, she was teaching for them at their Salsa event nights. She was aiming to gain as much information and knowledge as possible so she began travelling and taking classes with world class teachers. She especially spent much of her time in New York learning from the renowned Eddie Torres and Frankie Martinez giving her some of the most extensive vocabulary and technique of New York style Salsa.
During her career in Salsa she worked and performed with several different partners including, Lanre Adjani, the famous Moe Flex and Simon The Lord Bachata. While travelling with her dance partners she also choreographed many student groups for both private courses and corporate companies such as Barclays bank, and The Military; (something she was very passionate about) as well as her own professional group Seraphim which she was able to take to congresses and events . Winning a UK championship in Salsa, a European championship in Bachata and having her girls team place 3rd in the European team championships (against partnered teams), she found a love for choreography. Angelique has taught and performed at countless Latin events. More commercial events include, performing at The Notting Hill Carnival with Moe Flex Dance, dancing in many a video, with artists such as Beverly Knight; and just recently she performed in the 2014 dance movie Cuban Fury.
In 2008 she began teaching ladies styling at Bar Salsa in London, giving the students who came to her the advantage of learning the vast amount of knowledge and experience that she has gained over the years. She continues to teach at Salsa, to this day, and from this class several of todays UK based female teachers have profited from her training.
In 2010 Otradanz was formed. Otradanz is a collaboration of some of the Uk's finest modern Latin dance talent. Dani K and Angelique initiated the company followed shortly by Moe Flex, Magda Fadi K, and Saulo. Angelique left Otradanz in 2015 after dancing Internationally in Europe and many places such as Marrakesh and Bahrain .
She continues to choreograph through Seraphim Dance producing shows which are a fusion of Latin afro and jazz / contemporary dance.
