Headliners announced for Halifax Comedy Festival 2016

Halifax Comedy Festival 2016 will feature a stellar line-up of the UK’s best established and emerging comic talents who will descend on the historic town for its annual festival of humour and hilarity this October.

Headliners at the town’s beautiful 19th century Victoria Theatre include award-winning comedian and TV favourite Jimmy Carr , performing his ‘The Best Of, Ultimate, Gold, Greatest Hits Tour’ featuring a collection of his favourite comic routines from the past 15 years. Romesh Ranganathan, who has experienced a meteoric rise since his Best Newcomer nomination at the 2013Edinburgh Comedy Awards, presents his new solo show ‘Irrational’ and Al Murray , brings his popular pub land lord persona back to the stage with his ‘Let's Go Backwards Together’ show.

Halifax’s stunning Grade II* listed Square Chapel – which is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment – will play host to a number of rising stars making their names on the comedy circuit. Stand-up and TV regular Andrew Lawrence returns to Square Chapel with his hilarious latest tour ‘Andrew Lawrence Is Coming To Get You’ on 22 October. Andrew has twice been nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award, is a regular on Channel 4’s ‘Stand Up For The Week’ and has hosted two BBC Radio 4 sitcoms. Also taking to the stage is one of the leading lights of British comedy, James Acaster, who brings his newest comic offering, ‘Reset’, to the

venue following his upcoming 2016 run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Festival Director Tim Fagan said “We can’t wait to bring back our hugely popular comedy festival with a fantastic line-up of some of the best comic talents in the country. These headliners are just the tip of our comedy iceberg; we’ll be announcing the full programme later this year, so keep your eyes peeled over the coming months, for more information on additional events and workshops.

“Halifax is filled with fabulous cultural venues, big and small, new and old, all within walking distance making it the perfect place for a festival. We look forward to welcoming locals and visitors to our cobbled streets for a week of laughter, fun and a hefty dose of the unexpected.”

The Halifax Comedy Festival runs from 21 to 29 October with more than 20 events taking place across eight quirky venues from Halifax’s little-known Wellington Rooms, to legendary local music venue, the Arden Road Social Club.
