Charlotte Marshall & The 45s win The Future Of The Blues competition

Judges from The Blues Magazine, Mascot Label Group and The Big Easy Bar.B.Q and Lobstershack restaurant reveal the upcoming artist that represents The Future Of The Blues.

We are thrilled to announce the winner of The Future Of The Blues competition is Charlotte Marshall & The 45s who, after an avalanche of entries and a hard-fought live final, have won a recording contract with the Mascot Label Group, home to Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Cray, Warren Haynes and many more.

Charlotte Marshall & The 45s beat off competition from the other four finalists Henry’s Funeral Shoe, Kaz Hawkins, Matthew Douglas, and The Black Circles who all played amazing sets on the night – and you can hear more from them on an upcoming The Blues Magazine covermount CD, coming soon.

The Blues Magazine in partnership with the Mascot Label Group and Big Easy Bar.B.Q and Lobstershack restaurants, is hugely proud of the results of this first event. Winner Charlotte Marshall said of the experience: "Charlotte Marshall and The 45's never felt so at home as in the Big Easy, Chelsea, all the way from Glasgow to London witnessing an inspiring collection of blues of all kinds from across the UK. An honor to be amongst that calibre of artist, what a fabulous night had by all. Thanks to The Blues Mag, Mascot Label Group, Provogue Records, Big Easy London, Big Boy Bloater, the guests and the incredible food too. Joining a roster of such esteem means a lot to the whole band and we would love to thank everyone who supports us. Next stop, Crossrail Station and the Big Easy opening in Canary Wharf, our new recordings and our group's continued journey from the roots to the future of blues."

Mascot Label Group owner Ed Van Zijl is delighted with the addition to the label roster saying, “What a fun night and what a great talent. I am genuinely thrilled with the winner. Charlotte Marshall and the 45's, mark that name!”

The Blues Magazine editor Ed Mitchell feels they could help push the future of the blues "What a night! A great venue packed tight with a fantastic bunch of people. I was blown away by the talent and diversity of the five finalists. There's much more to the blues than three chord, 12-bars and 'woke up this morning' and the finalists proved that the future of the music we love is in safe hands."

While Big Easy owner Paul Corrett also feels excited by the prospect saying; “The talent last was incredible – I was totally blown away by each act. It was a really difficult decision to make as I think that they were all deserving of a record deal. We are delighted though with the winner Charlotte Marshall and the 45s – superb band, and are looking forward to having them play with us again on May 1st at the Big Easy pre-opening pop-up event at our newest site Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf. We very much look forward to further partnerships with The Blues Mag and Mascot Label Group in the future”

Charlotte Marshall & The 45s will also play Brews, Blues and ‘Ques Big Easy Pop-Up at Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf on May 1 alongside labelmate and 17-year-old blues sensation Aaron Keylock and the Big Easy house band The Big Easy All Stars. This will mark the official opening of the highly-anticipated Norman Foster-designed Cross Rail Place Canary Wharf, soon to be home to Big Easy's third and biggest standalone restaurant located at Park Level, adjoining a 90,000 square foot roof top park.
