A CHILD IS BORN is a 45 minute musical play based on the nativity. It is written by the internationally published children's author Hiawyn Oram with songs composed by singer-songwriter, Gilly Elkin.

This show has been written for performance by children of all ages with parts for everyone. It's a simple but poignant rendering of the traditional story of Christ's birth with some fresh writing that makes the event at once more credible, comprehensible and compelling. Here, Christ's birth is introduced as a change of heart in an Old Testament God who has been terrifying his people with plagues and famines. Now he decides to reach out to them with love and sends a child, his Son, to bring that change of heart to earth in person.

Though the story mainly follows the well-known plot, in every scene there are new ideas energetically expressed in a range of songs which offer exciting opportunities for performance and staging.

The musical has been successfully performed in schools all over the world.
